What Does It Cost?
$42 per ticket
We worked hard to get the yacht charter cost down to the most affordable price as possible.
The Yacht:
A 54' Skipper Liner cruising Yacht capable of taking up to 60 guests for the 2 hour cruise to watch live racing.
The Route:
We'll pick you up from Light House Island with a 10:30am departure for the main lake. We will then setup at certain locations on the race course to give you up close race views that include the racing start, leeward mark roundings, and windward mark roundings. We have to navigate in a way that does not block the wind of the sailors otherwise I'll be razzed by the E Class nationally. After viewing those roundings we'll be making a wide rounding up the course for a scenic look of the fleet to get to another mark.
When the time is up, we'll return to Light House Island to drop you off.
Who & What is Racing?
The E Scow National Championship is a regatta awarded to yacht clubs with active E-Scow Fleets around the United States. This year it's being held on Lake Minnetonka. The E Scow is arguably one of the fastest and largest sailing fleets in the country. The boat design came from the midwest. It isn't unusual to see 80 boats show up for a national championship of this caliber with teams coming from Georgia, to New York, Colorado, and more.
The racing looks like sheer chaos as all of these boats zig zag between each other in a somewhat confined space with each one fighting to get around the course first. It leads to exciting views on the beautiful Lake Minnetonka we know so well.
What Happens When There Is No Wind?
We'll go cruise for a couple hours and enjoy the remaining days of the soft water before winter comes.
When Should I Be There?
Try to be on Light House Island 10-15 minutes before 10:30am so we may load up and depart on-time.
Where Can I Park?
Carson Bay Facility will be closed off so that we're capable of handling regatta operations (launching & taking boats out). You can park up at the Deephaven Elementary School, or City Hall and then walk over to Carson Bay Facility to catch a pontoon to Light House Island.
If you have a parking permit you can certainly park on permited streets.
Lastly you're welcome to access Light House Island from Park Avenue. Follow local parking permit restrictions.
What Should I Wear?
Be cognizant of the forecasted temps and weather. It's a good idea to bring an extra layer if you want to be out in the conditions.
We have indoor accomidations, and the freeboard on this vessel will make it suitable for a larger range of conditions than the fleet can even handle.
Who is on the Mic?
Judson Koehn
Funny you ask. Judson Koehn will be on the mic for this cruise. Here is a picture of Judson racing his E-Scow when he "competed" in the last national championship on Lake Minnetonka. He's sailed every scow, plenty of keel boats, dinghys, big boats fast and slow. He knows exactly what not to do in order to win a National Championship, and he can provide intimate details on what it's like when 80 E scows race right by you. He's thrilled to walk you through the races, talk about what he's seeing, and pretend he can predict who'll win.
Food & Beverage:
For the sake of keeping the ticket cost low, we will not be providing food on board for this short cruise. There will be a cash bar available if you choose to partake.
